I have this one album that instantly brings a smile to my face simply by putting my eyes on it. Listening to this album will pick up any sour day, adding pep to my step.
In 2017, on no particularly special day (it was my birthday), I went to Lincoln Center Out of Doors with my wonderful friends Sharon, Jorge, and a few more showed up later in the program. This was one of our favorite past times during a New York City summertime… pre-COVID. On this particular night, it was beautiful weather and we were able to score pretty sweet seats as well as a handheld libation.
A singing trio called Duchess opened for Paul Taylor’s Dance Company. We had never heard of Duchess, so we were excited. The best way to describe their style of music is that they sound a lot like The Andrews Sisters! Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner, and Melissa Stylianou had an amazing set! On a whim while walking by the merchandise tent, I purchased their record… and they even signed it!
Three years later, this album gives me such happy, warm feelings by just existing. I am thrown back to that night at Lincoln Center Out of Doors with my friends dancing under the stars. I’m smiling now just thinking about it. Y’know what? I think I’ll listen to it.
What is something in your life that brings you joy? An item or memory that makes you smile? You don’t have to respond, but I just want to remind you of those bright memories. Bright memories and small smiles are important, so do me a favor and don’t forget about them.
