“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” – Marcus Aurelius
In my absence from writing this blog, I’ve been learning what kind of educator I am. Teaching pharmacology is equal parts terrifying, wonderful, fun, and full of responsibility! The last two semesters have been full of lessons, in multiple ways. So many lessons!
Which means that this past week, a.k.a. Spring Break, has been a lovely change from being a double agent: nurse and nursing professor! This break was not just from teaching but from my full time job too. This meant that I needed to reset. Items on the to do list included lots of yoga, food, rest, some work catch-up, a ballet class, and more!
Those of you who know me are aware of my dance background. Dance will always be my first love. Even though I’ve retired from dance, that doesn’t mean I don’t still twist, twirl, and tap! Just like Jody Sawyer in Center Stage, I needed to go back to the ballet barre.
It felt amazing to work through the barre combinations, hold myself up during centre, almost enjoy adagio, attempt a double pirouette (she doesn’t spin like she used to!), and even throw in a few battu during petit allegro. The instructor was lovely and funny, the other students were nice, and I left with a huge smile on my face.
Marcus Aurelius really said it well. Waking up each morning is quite the gift!
Hoping to write more of these mini tales to bring more smiles! Happy almost end of Spring Break everyone!
I love it!
