Tomorrow is my first day of work at a new job. I’m a pediatric nurse, and I love being a nurse. I can’t describe to you in words how much I love it. I started four years ago on a medical surgical floor, then moved to the pediatric intensive care unit and tomorrow, I start orientation as a transport nurse.
I won’t lie. I had made a plan, and I was following it, but I had some feelings of doubt. They creep in there because it’s easy to second guess. What if I am making a mistake? Why would I leave a job that I love? Why change when there is much more learning to be had?
Here’s the best and easiest answer: why not?
Two quotes from Donna Wilk Cardillo, otherwise known as the Inspiration Nurse hit me right when I needed them to in the past week. 1. “Carve out your own path in nursing. There is no one right way for all nurses to start their careers or to continue their careers” and 2. “Humble yourself to learning and you’ll eventually become an expert.” Can you imagine going on a path like mine and stumbling upon these wise words of wisdom?
So here’s my new short-term plan. Learn, stay positive and be as good as I can be.
